Amanda Klahr, RN MA GNP, Medical Care Manager, Extended Care 3 and Nursing Home units, Bayit Balev.

Amanda is a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. Over a career of twenty-five years, Amanda has worked as a clinician, program developer, lecturer and manager, in all areas where geriatric care is provided, in Israel and Australia. She has developed programs for admission prevention, ageing in place and community rehabilitation in both Australia and Israel. In 2011 she was awarded a National Australian Nursing Award for the Geriatric Flying Squad, a program she developed to rescue community dwelling elderly, prevent emergency room visits and hospital admissions. In 2022, as Director of Nursing, Amanda was instrumental in the licensing and opening of Bayit Balev, Rishon LeZion, the largest geriatric hospital in Israel to date. Today she works in the hospital as the medical care manager of Extended Care Unit 3 and the Nursing Home Unit. Her current role involves working as part of the medical team, part of a pilot program of the Ministry of Health to develop the Nurse Practitioner role in Israel. Amanda lectures in many of the nursing schools and gerontology programs across Israel. She is a doctoral student in the Department of Health Systems management at the University of Ariel. Amanda’s heart lies in clinical management and teaching but first and foremost in the promotion of the health and wellbeing of the elderly population. Amanda lives in Jerusalem with her husband and is the mother of four children.
