Prof. Amit Shrira, Ph.D., is a professor in the Interdisciplinary Department of Social Sciences at Bar-Ilan University, Israel, and a licensed clinical psychologist. His research focuses on how older adults cope with aging and the dying process, particularly following exposure to adverse and traumatic events and the intergenerational transmission of trauma. Prof. Shrira examines the effects of aging on health using both objective (chronological age, years to death) and subjective (subjective age, subjective nearness to death) measures. His key research areas include the intergenerational transmission of trauma, especially in Holocaust survivors and their descendants, trauma and aging, and subjective perceptions of aging.
